Shape Castle

  Description:                For this project we were given a piece of cardstock paper. We were then instructed to measure and cut 2 inches off of the bottom. With that 2 in piece we then cut different shapes out of it. I cut out a square, rectangle, triangle, and an octagon. With those cut out shapes we were instructed to make a castle out of them, putting the shapes down and tracing them. One thing we needed to include in the background was either a sun or a moon since we based our drawings off of Klee's paintings. He was known to have bright and colorful pictures. Which was why our also needed to be bright and colorful.  Extension Activity:               This project could also be used in an English lesson. Clay Making

 Description:          For this project we were given a chunk of clay and then instructed to squish it and fold it over like your making dough. After awhile we then would throw it at the table, and pick it up and continue that for a bit making sure there wasn't any air pockets. We then were given two pieces of wood to put one each side of your clay and a dowel to role out the clay. After each roll you were needed to pick it up so that it wouldn't stick to the cardboard. Once it got to a certain width we then used a bowel to cut out a circular shape. We wet our finger with water and smoothed out the edges a little bit. After those steps were done we were told that we needed one additive and one negative thing added to our clay that represented us. I chose to do a tree as the additive, scoring both the tree and the circular slab and putting a little bit of water on it making sure that it would stick together.   Description:               For this project we worked with a partner. We started with deciding on what 3 colors of construction paper we wanted and then white. We traced the pre-cut piece onto the construction paper and then cut out the pieces. After getting all the pieces cut out we then cut them into half, once they were cut into half we then folded them into links and secured it with a piece of tape. Me and my partner then laid them out in the pattern so that it was easier to follow, each color was connected with a white piece, after all the lines were done we put them onto the dowel and put a piece of string on the dowel so that it could be hung up.  Extension Activity:               I would use this as an activity for them to work on grids and how it is important to make sure that their numbers are correct. After they are done they would present them to the class and then they would be hung ...

Earth Ocean

  Description:               For this project we used construction paper for all of it. We started off by grabbing one for the background. We then chose another color for our fish, we folded our paper in half hotdog style and traced the already pre-traced fish onto the construction paper. After tracing we cut it out and then unfolded it which then made the whole fish. We then folded the fish in half to make our line we would cut to so that we could weave the other color into it. We then cut out pieces of the second color, and then wove it into the fish and then cut a diagonal cut along the outside to make it look more like fins. With those pieces that were cut off we glued those onto the fish in different areas to look like scales. Once the fish was done I glued on some brown construction paper as the sand, glue on the fish and then cut out some 'seaweed' and a crab and glued that on to make the whole picture.  Extension Activity:  ...

Print Making

  Description:                    For this project we needed to make a ocean scene on a piece of normal paper. Once the ocean scene was drawn we then had to tape it onto a piece of Styrofoam and traced over top of it for it to transfer on. It needed to be traced over top of a couple of times to make sure it went through onto the Styrofoam. After it was traced we then took the normal piece of paper off and colored it will markers. Once it was colored we went and got the piece of water colored paper wet and then dried it off a bit. then put the Styrofoam that was now colored in, put it on top of the damp water color paper and rolled over top of it with a brayer which made the picture transfer.  Extension Activity:               I would make this into an activity that goes over a bunch of different habitats. One week we could focus on oceans, then deserts, mountains, etc....

Basket Weaving

  Description:                   For this project we talked about Native Americans and what they all use baskets for. We started out picking colors that were complimentary, orange and blue. We then folded on hamburger style and used a pre-cut paper to draw a line that would act as the stopping point. After drawing the stopping point we cut from the folded end all the way to that line. Once done we grabbed the other piece of construction paper and used the pre-cute piece again and marked the lines all the way down the paper and then cut it out. We then grabbed our pieces of paper and weaved them into the other piece of paper going over, under, etc. Then with the next piece we went under, over, etc. and continued until it was all the way to the top and repeated the same steps on the back side. Painting- Mandala Design

  Description:                For this project we were using water color paints to paint a mandala design. We were shown right away 4 different techniques that we could use, dabbing, salt, resist, and wet. After that we were told to draw 8 different sections, one horizontal, one vertical, one left diagonal, and one right diagonal. Then on a separate piece of paper we drew the circle again and then made 2 different sections so that we could figure out the design we wanted to use. We were able to try on it a couple different times and then drew it onto our actual circle. Once drawn we then traced it with a black sharpie and then had to decide what two techniques we were going to use. I used resist and dabbing, there are little white dots close to the outside where the resist was, some of them didn't fully show because I didn't fill it in enough. And then throughout the whole thing I just used a paper towel and dabbed it off once I painted ...

Drawing- Cupcakes

  Description:                     For this project we watched a video on famous artist who was mostly known for making different food items. We made cupcakes, we started off by drawing 3 different cupcake designs in pencil and then outlined it with a black sharpie. We then needed to color them with markers, watercolor, or crayons and we got to pick which one was colored with what and with whatever colors we wanted. All the backgrounds were the same, a yellow top and blue bottom.  Extension Activity:                    For this I would do different food items, maybe writing down a couple different ones so they have options but not letting them to just pick their own incase they can't and spend the whole time trying to decide. And I would also incorporate some different things that they could use to color them in with. 

Vincent Van Gogh Art

  Description:                     For this project we were to create a Vincent Van Gogh inspired scene using oil pastels, construction paper, tissue paper, mod podge to hold everything together. I chose blue construction paper for the back, and then picked purples, blues and pink tissue paper to put onto it. I then cut out mountains from black construction paper and outlined them with a white oil pastel.  Extension Activity:                     I would use this in a science lesson when we go over biomes. I would have them include a couple different vegetations and landforms in that biome as the black construction paper. They will then present it in front of the class and talk about their biomes. 

Hidden Safari

  Description:               For this project we were given several different animals to choose from to draw. Once we chose one we drew that animal in a cool color (light blue). After drawing the animal we then needed to cover it up with warm colors in many different shapes and sizes so that the animal was "hidden". I chose to hide it under red circles, orange lines, and yellow triangles. Once the animal was hidden we then made a pair of glasses out of construction paper and a red film that would allow us to be able to see our animal past all the warm colors. On the bottom we glued a note card to our project to make it a game to see if you could spot our animal. On the note card was three hints to see if you could figure out the animal.  Extension Activity:                This project could easily be incorporated into many other subjects. DOT Day Explorations

  Description:                        International Dot Day is when students are able to make art in the general shape of circles or dots. Students are encouraged to use their imaginations and creativeness to use for their art. For this project we were given a coffee filter, regular crayons, oil-based crayons, water colors, and sharpies. We were told that we could create whatever we wanted. I used water colors, oil-based crayons, regular crayons and sharpies in my project.  Extension  Activity:                          For my dot day project I would have each student paint their hands with black paint and press it onto paper, which would be their tree. I would them give them q-tips and tell them that they can use whatever colors and make however many dots they want to create the leaves on the tree. When they were dry I would...

Elements and Principles

Description:               For this project we went over many different elements and principles in art. We needed to take 12 different pictures that covered: shapes, texture, lines, value, emphasis, color, space, contrast, movement/rhythm, balance, patterns/repetition, and unity. After we took the pictures, we put them into either a PowerPoint or made a game for the class.  Extension  Activity:               When covering all of the elements and principles I would like to spend a little bit more time on them and have them spaced out and do some little projects within them. I think taking the time on each one and making sure that the students understand them could really benefit them and help them remember them. After we have gone through them all I would have had them keep all their little projects that we did and put them into a binder and they would then "present" them to the rest of th...
